With the help of Rights Georgia the mother of a minor no longer faces expulsion from Georgia

On October 9, 2024, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals satisfied the Rights Georgia’s appeal and annulled the decision of the Tbilisi City Court regarding the expulsion of the Iranian woman.
On 24 May 2024, the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia delivered a decision to expel a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran, from Georgia to Iran. The beneficiary has a spouse and a minor (4 years of age) child who are asylum-seekers in Georgia. The child was born in Georgia and is enrolled in one of Tbilisi's kindergarten programs.
An administrative appeal was filed by the beneficiary with the Tbilisi City Court, contesting the decision of the Migration Department. In a ruling issued on 24 June 2024, the Tbilisi City Court dismissed the beneficiary's appeal.
The decision of the Tbilisi City Court was appealed to the Tbilisi Court of Appeals with the assistance of "Rights Georgia" which overruled the expulsion decisions from the Migration Department of MIA and City Court.
The ruling of the Tbilisi Court of Appeals is final and not subject to further appeal.
Rights Georgia provided free legal assistance to the Iranian beneficiary under the UNHCR-funded project "Protecting and Empowering Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Humanitarian Status Holders, and Stateless Persons in Georgia".
